The Story of Zander Insurance

Zander Insurance is a fourth-generation, family and employee-owned independent insurance agency headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Since Herman Zander founded the agency in 1930, its mission has remained straightforward: protect families and serve clients throughout the life of their insurance policies.

For nearly a century, Zander Insurance has grown from a local family business into a national insurance agency. Much has changed in the insurance industry during that time, but Zander’s commitment to personal service, independent guidance, and fostering long-term client relationships has remained the same.

Zander Insurance has been led by four generations of the Zander family:

1930

Herman Zander

Founded the agency in Nashville in 1930.

Julian M. Zander

Herman's son continued the family business and remained active in the agency until his death in 1983.

Julian 'Bud' Zander

Joined the agency in 1957 and helped guide its continued growth.

1986 to Present

Jeff Zander

Joined in 1986 and now serves as our fourth-generation CEO.

Who Owns Zander Insurance?

Zander Insurance is a fourth-generation family business and is 49% employee-owned through an Employee Stock Ownership Plan. Jeff Zander, the great-grandson of founder Herman Zander, serves as the company’s CEO.

Employee ownership gives team members a direct stake in the company’s long-term success and reinforces a culture of service, responsibility, and accountability.

That combination of family and employee ownership also allows Zander to focus on lasting relationships instead of short-term transactions. The agency’s role does not end when someone purchases a policy. Its team remains available to answer questions, review changing insurance needs, assist with claims, and help clients with their insurance companies when issues or concerns arise.

Zander Life Lessons Scholarship

Established in 2013, the Zander Life Lessons Scholarship helps students who have experienced the financial hardship of losing a parent who did not have adequate life insurance.

Each year, 10 students receive scholarships to help with educational expenses, including tuition and housing. The scholarship program reflects an important lesson at the heart of Zander’s mission: thoughtful planning today can make a meaningful difference for a family’s future.
